It’s cold and flu season again.
I know, because when I go to my local pharmacy, grocery store
or discount center, there’s a nice person sitting behind a sign
that reads “Flu Shots Here” patiently waiting for those who want
to be protected against the viruses we’ll be passing around
this year.
But what many folks in our industry don’t realize, there’s a
rampant virus among network marketers! This insidious virus
is present year ‘round, has its victim in its grips before he
even realizes it and infects even seasoned veterans at times.
A private training I attended last week identified the two
main viral strains…Procrastination and Avoidance. And if
we’re not cautious and/or take preventative measures to
inoculate ourselves, we can end up being infected.
So how do you immunize yourself? Especially if the viruses
have already infected you and grabbed a solid foothold?
According to top leaders and trainers I’ve studied…and I
agree…it’s all about personal accountability. We must fully
embrace responsibility for ourselves and take control of our lives.
Period.
We know that with all problems, the first step is becoming
aware that there IS a problem. But then what?
Once we’re aware there’s a problem, it’s only natural to
begin to notice TONS of solutions to the problem(s) facing us.
This can lead to a whole host of other issues like analysis
paralysis and shiny object syndrome, just to name two.
To determine the solution that works best for us, we need to
get an accurate handle on where we are and honestly assess
our strengths and weaknesses.
According to what I’ve learned from some of the leaders of
the industry, this can be accomplished by simply asking ourselves
three questions at the end of the day.
#1 – How many new people did I talk to today about my business?
I’ve heard this one from many sources over the years, and there
are many ways to “talk” to people. It can be online, in a social
media setting, it can be on the phone or it can in person.
The point is to track how many NEW people we talked to today
about OUR business? Whether it’s a NWM opportunity, a product
that we have for sale, or coaching…whatever our business happens
to be. Ask yourself, “How many new people did I talk to today?”
And we need to keep a ledger of some sort…some kind of a tally
system where we can track our results. Today I may have talked
to 2, but yesterday only talked to 1…so that’s an improvement.
#2 – Quite simply…and BE HONEST with yourself…would YOU hire you
based on what you’re doing?
If you’re in network marketing, would you join you?
Would you follow you?
I’ve heard this many times on training CD’s, from the stage, on
conference calls, etc. (most recently it was Todd Falcone at
Live the Dream 2)
However that question is phrased, we must take an honest look at
ourselves and determine if we would be attracted to working with
someone like us in whatever our capacity might be.
If not, what is it that needs to change?
What is it that we didn’t do as good as we possible could have
today that we can do better tomorrow?
And while we’re honestly tracking our activities…
#3 – What is it that we did absolutely fantastically wonderful
today that we want to repeat tomorrow?
We must remember to recognize the home runs we’ve hit and the
progress we’ve made. Giving ourselves credit for a job well
done will help give us confidence and motivate us to keep going.
At the end of the day, we’re competing with ourselves…we don’t
have to worry about anyone else. If we just do just a tiny
percentage better today than yesterday, then a tiny percentage
better tomorrow than today, we’ll begin to see a difference.
So compete with yourself. Get real and ask those three questions
every night before bed.
And if you keep doing that…keep taking responsibility for yourself
and your business…and pretty soon you’ll notice that you don’t have
the virus any longer, AND you’re developing immunity against being
infected again.
