Think you have to have everything just right?
I used to, but not anymore.
Yup…I use to be a perfectionist. But I learned
that my perfectionism was not only wasting my time
(which is at a premium), but it was often paralyzing
me and grinding everything to a screeching halt.
Since letting go of the need to have everything
“just so” I’ve maintained…and told my clients…
that you don’t have to be “perfect” to grow your
audience.
And here’s PROOF!!
A couple days ago I did my very first Facebook
Live video.
Now, I’m no stranger to the video camera (my
You Tube channel shows that). But I had never
used this particular technology before, and as
with all new things, there’s a slight learning curve.
Most of it was pretty simple and straight
forward, like naming your “live” before you
start it.
And getting past being disconnected several
times for no apparent reason (other than
something was wonky at Facebook), but obviously
I missed something because…
MY VIDEO IS SIDEWAYS!
Now if I were still holding onto the need to
be perfect, that puppy would have been deleted
in the blink of an eye. But here’s the thing…
That silly sideways video has led to a TON of
interaction, private messages and emails.
And ALL of them were positive!
It seems folks appreciate knowing that you
make mistakes.
That everything you do isn’t perfect.
That you’re human, just like them.
Ironically, the message of my sideways video
was “Be Yourself”!! (You can watch it below)
My suggestion?
Just be the unique person you are, put
yourself out there and let your voice be heard
But above all…HAVE FUN!!!
(I’m still laughing about my horizontal video!)
Notice the a big space under the video? That’s
part of the “sideways-ness” too! LOL
I hope this was helpful. Feel free to share and
comment if you got value!
